Today melts into tomorrow. HalleyAnna and the Tennessee Volunteers and friends came to Threadgill's on Tuesday night and played a sweet alt-country set. I went over to the Continental Club, which was hopping with a retro 80's band with the clever name of Motel Aviv, and then our rock and roll princess friend Ruby James blew the doors off. Ahhh, such as it is with my rock and roll lifestyle. Then I jumped a plane to Colorado to attend the FMQB AAA Conference. Lots of bands playing here of every description. Life is a banquet!
The Malford Milligan Band "River"
It has gotten so that I am now dreaming about writing posts in my sleep. I dreamt all kinds of good stuff to talk about today, but I didn’t get up to write it all down, and now it is all gone forever. Keeping a dream journal is probably the way to go, but I just don’t want to wake up to do the deed. Today's song comes from a set that just washed over me at the Music Fog Marathon in March at Threadgill’s. It was the day so far this year, that reached a fever pitch. Malford and the band rocked the room in full-tilt boogie tradition.
Jackson Parten "Here in California"
Oh yum. Being out in California recently was just delicious. The air, the low humidity, the colors of sky and flowers, the towering mountains. It is all overwhelming to the senses. I have that awareness every time I visit, that it simply is the promised land, well, the way it looks anyway. A friend from California asked me a few days ago ‘what I am doing in the desert’ it gave me pause for a moment as I reflected on the lush California landscape, and compared that to the drought and convection oven heat we are dealing with day after day. Yes, Texas is that hot. It feels biblical here.
