You see them everywhere, crosses by the side of the road, with flowers of remembrance placed upon them with love and tears. It makes you stop for a moment, to think of those lost, to acknowledge the pain that passing by that spot must cause for those who mourn. These displays dot our landscape, act as counterpoint as we go through the motions of our lives, not thinking of the end. But when you need to reflect, there are prayers in one’s place of worship, conversations with close friends, and there is music.
The well-turned phrase can comfort, voices can be raised almost to heaven, the frequencies can touch our soul. Music heals. And whenever we hurt, it is there for solace, for soothing, for peace. Today we have a spectacular song by Ray Bonneville, from his latest album Bad Man’s Blood.
We had the pleasure of doing a session with Ray during last year’s Cherokee Creek Music Festival outside of Llano, Texas. Ray is a powerful player. He has been on the road almost all year, and picks up another leg later this month in Minnesota. This is a poignant tale of a life’s goals left unrealized. Ray is joined by John Fullbright on keys, and Rad Lorkovic on accordion. Today we debut the Music Fog recording of “Cross & Flowers.”
