Hope you had a nice weekend, and a nice week, for that matter. I must say that I lost track of whether it was a weekday or a weekend somewhere in there, but I went to Fest Out West on Saturday, and that helped set things straight. The event was in two towns in Texas, Kerrville, and then Luckenbach on Saturday. I just attended the daytime show there, and it was a splendid outing under the live oaks with rousing sets from Doug Moreland, Dale Watson, Reckless Kelly and Robert Earl Keen. Kudos to Abbey Road of Luckenbach and John and Robin Dickson from Dickson Productions for a feel good deal. Of course they also do MusicFest at Steamboat Springs, and I am already looking forward to that event in the first part of January, 2013.
Next event is Americana Fest, happening September 12- 15 this year in Nashville. I am looking forward to that too! When we were there last year, we were busy at Marathon Recorders with three days of amazing artists coming to play for our cameras. Kevin Gordon brought a A-list of players with him; Joe McMahan, Ron Eoff and Paul Griffith. I hope you are hip to Kevin, if not, here is an impressive page of quotes about him.
The new album, Gloryland, which came out in February, is his fifth album since he started recording in 1994. Let me tell you there are musical gems in his catalog. Kevin is headed south, and will be playing Threadgill’s WHQ on July 15! Our featured tune today is earthy and moody. Joe McMahan’s guitar provides the perfect punctuation. Here is “Tearing It Down,” the original of which you can find on the Gloryland album.
