So many artists, so little time! There is just no way to keep up with it all! Shannon McNally's voice blows through you like the wind on the Great Plains, all amber waves of grain. She got her first guitar at 12, along with a JJ Cale album. An auspicious start indeed. She grew up on a nexus of classic rock, Dr. John, Allman Brothers, and Jimi Hendrix. She was raised in Long Island, NY, but has spent most of her adult life travelling, winding up in New Orleans in 2000. And then winding up not being able to live in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina, so she migrated to North Mississippi.
Shannon's latest CD, the self-produced Coldwater, was recorded at Jim Dickinson's Zebra Ranch Studio just before he passed. "Bohemian Wedding Prayer" is on that album, but this video is from Music in the Hall, which is the brainchild of Daniel Morrow who has been blogging under the name Oxford Music Snob since April of 2007. His site routinely links to YouTube clips of artists coming to Oxford as a way to promote shows. We relate!
