After such a wonderful showcase at Threadgill’s (check out the vids!), Idaho has been uneventful music-wise. No, I did not go see Jessica Simpson open for Rascal Flatts even though it was the only noteworthy **Cough** music event (Yeah… right…). The withdrawal symptoms have been trying. Obsessively looking at concert schedules, comparing airline tickets and debating whether or not the credit card can handle another adventure are some of the notable side-effects. But, when someone does schedule a show, the elusive Texas-Music fan of Idaho thrives. Yes, there is a larger population than just myself (but I guess large is subject to interpretation). Upon hearing of a concert opportunity the close-knit species immediately informs the rest to clear their schedules because it is going to be a great night. This might seem over the top but hello, if you miss a show in Texas wait a week and you can see who ever you missed when they swing through town again.
Micky & the Motorcars recently played a show at what we affectionately refer to
as the “Big Sleaze.” The girls and I met up for some dinner at a local pub and some of the ‘rents joined. And when I say ‘rents, I mean my friends parent’s who have been Muzzie Braun and the Boys fans for 15+ years. They even decide to venture out on a Wednesday night with the young crowd for a fantastic show. “The Warden” is never a disappointment for a concert.
Anyways, a local band opened, sorry I don’t know who because we enjoyed our dinner until the beverages were finished, whoops! The first sentence out of Micky’s mouth was, “oh man, this is going to be a mess!”. He came to party but still played a damn good show. The place was packed and everyone came to have a good time.
My friends and I agree, they had an epic set-list. They played for twice as long as the usual and all of it was fanatsic. Muzzie Braun came on for a few songs, classic Muzzie and the Boys stuff, so great! Jaime, our resident Americana/Texas music guru was so happy to hear some old stuff (aka stuff from the “Which Way from Here” album) and great covers of “Lawyers, Guns & Money” and “Stay With Me”. Garry also sang a few songs; I absolutely love his voice, especially “Million Miles” but that was the one they unfortunately didn’t play.
The next day took its toll on the crew (translation: “we had a blast”). I wandered to the local burrito place on my lunch break and found them all just hanging out. It became a personal day for them and I wish I could have been there too. One midterm later I joined in the fun for a half day of “touring” Hyde Park and enjoying the sun.
While I may be a smidgen bitter that no one plays Idaho often, its almost better that they don’t. It makes every time worthwhile and more memorable. If you can see Micky & the Motorcars once a month, shows start to blend and the fun stories get left out. Until Braun Brothers Reunion, this might hold me over but the withdrawal symptoms just might be too much to handle so another adventure may be in order.
