Eric Brace & Peter Cooper "Peace Like A River"

It is a lazy Sunday in the summertime. It occurred to me that maybe, you would just like to hide from the sun, and do a bit of movie watching. Are you hip to SnagFilms? This is a way cool resource - they have over 3,000 films that you can stream for FREE on Snagfilms.com. And then again, you can watch them anytime, and anywhere in the world that you might be, on your iPad, Kindle Fire, Blackberry tablets, Android smartphone, Roku Box, and other devices. Talk about being wired in! As a special incentive to intrigue you even further, the Paul Simon documentary Under African Skies, is available just for two weeks in this month as we are coming up on the 26th anniversary of the Paul Simon Graceland album on August 12th.

So today we put forth a Paul Simon tune to honor the occasion, though it is not a tune from that remarkable album. Come to think of it, Paul Simon has had a pretty damn remarkable career, so today we have his song, “Peace Like A River,” as done by Eric Brace & Peter Cooper. The song is on the Paul Simon self-titled album, which came out back in 1972. Eric Brace and Last Train Home just got done playing the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion Festival, which is a fun affair every year. There are dates coming for Eric Brace and Peter Cooper too! They make such a compelling duo on stage. We filmed them doing this song during Americana Fest 2011 in Nashville. BTW, if you love Music Fog’s videos, help us get to Nashville to produce more videos with another Music Fog Marathon, by pledging to our Kickstarter Campaign.

Mic Harrison And The High Score "Out Of The Blue"

The Music Fog Kickstarter campaign to raise money to allow us to Nashville in September is off to a slow start. We hope that if you enjoy our videos, you would in essence “pay it forward,” with a pledge to support our travels and production costs. We also hope you’d retweet and post our Kickstarter link on your Facebook page.  We have only 24 more days to hit our goal. If we don’t make it, the pledged money reverts back to you. Not to mention, Music Fog would not be in attendance at The Americana Music Association Conference IF WE DON”T RAISE THE MONEY. Sorry to yell, but we know our videos travel through the social networks, to thirsty people who are looking for music discovery delivered in a quality package. WE KNOW IT’S WORKING, and we really need your help to make our next trip a reality. We have no corporate sponsorship - eventually it will come, but not in this economic environment. we are on a mission to seek Americana Music out, and deliver it to you.

We have another exclusive video debut for you today. A couple of weeks ago, we put up another song we filmed at Americana Fest last year with Scott Miller and Mic Harrison, AKA The V-Roys. The had put out an album and did a year end concert together in 2011, and made some appearances in support of the project. They are both continue their solo pursuits, too.

Mic Harrison and The High Score have released three previous albums: Push Me On Home (2007), On the Right Side of the Grass (2008) and Great Commotion (2010)  Today’s video is “Out Of The Blue,” from their brand new album Still Wanna Fight, just released in early July. Crank it kids! This is a summer rocker, then go and see them for a fun night out.

Kenny Vaughan "Carolee"

So are you watching the Olympics? I hope so. Does it make you want to run and jump and swim and dive? Do the gymnastics give you a sense of the wonder of the artistry and a desire to chase perfection? The games are a reminder of that most basic striving, to conquer what you do. Practice, practice, practice. The stories of these contenders are amazing as well, for they put ‘normal’ life on hold to chase their dreams.

Obviously the particulars are different, but if there were a contest for guitar players, I would want Kenny Vaughan on that team. I am quite sure he put his 10,000 hours in for that impeccable guitar playing of his. I love me some quality guitar playing. You know, that seems to be so much more underground when you think about how guitars ruled in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. It is hard to be a household name now. Of course Kenny shines as a member of Marty Stuart’s Fabulous Superlatives, and has many credits with folks like Rodney Crowell, Billy Burnette, Jim Lauderdale, Mike Farris, and Will Hoge. The list goes on and on. You can check it out here. Last year, Kenny put out his long awaited solo album debut, V. Kenny came to see us during the Fall Music Fog Marathon at Marathon Recorders in Nashville. Here is “Carolee,” with Rich Brinsfield on bass, and John Radford on drums.
