Morgan O'kane "Rain Rain"

It's a blur, with kaleidoscopic images, fleeting moments, snippets of dialog. And then there is a tornado that blows through. Morgan O'kane. The bus was literally rocking in place, we were all dancing so hard.

Some people ask about the process, how we pick the bands to come aboard in front of the Music Fog cameras. There is no recipe, other than some old, some new. Some girls, some boys. Some solos, some groups. Sometimes it is a recommendation, a feeling, nothing more. Shawna Cooper gave us the head's up about Morgan O'kane. You know about this guy? He was homeless, rode the rails as a hobo, and played in the NYC Subways. His old band was a "scum billy" outfit called Casa De Chihuahua. We're talking sheer joy here. Blow the roof off intensity. Gonzo spirit meets articulately flying fingers. Oh!

Paul Thorn "That's Life"

Full disclosure. Paul Thorn was not on the list for Folk Alliance, but he was down the road apiece, as his home is in Tupelo, though his website says Sulligent, Alabama. He has been in the studio recording a new album with his stellar band. He and I have know each other for the past 13 years, since his A&M CD, Hammer and Nail came out in 1997. BTW, Paul just got the rights back to the album, so he can sell it again and you will find that on his website. Hallelujah!

Last month The Paul Thorn Band brought the house down headlining at the Luckenbach Blues Festival. Always so good to see them. And always a treat to see Paul. He was a sight for sore eyes first thing this morning. Amazing, but he just keeps getting better; honing his craft, and delivering with that husky, emotive voice. He played three tunes for us, and this is one from his forthcoming CD Pimps And Preachers. It will make you cry. If you have a Mom, play it for her. Or your Dad. Or your kids. "That's Life."

Sean McConnell "Looking For A Good Time"

He calls it Lyric Driven Roots Rock. He has such a pure voice. And is a spectacular songwriter. Sean McConnell breathes fresh air into the Texas Music scene. He sets the bar really high. I was fortunate to attend an after party in May in Mattson Rainer's back yard celebrating the KNBT Americana Jam. Sean's turns performing stopped time. So very special.

Good news is that he is road doggin' it, and we await an album from him…hurry Sean, there is a hungry audience out here! We were lucky to have him at the Music Fog condo during MusicFest at Steamboat Springs, and we bring you "Lookin' For A Good Time," a tune that will be on the new album. Also, for a mindbender, watch his tour manager Derek Shampine shooting us with an iPhone while we were shooting Sean.
