Peter Case "Walk In The Woods"

I wish I was walking in the woods. That sounds like a cherry assignment compared to what is going on in my house right now. I can’t go into my kitchen because there is a rodent in there. I saw him run through the living room a couple of nights ago. So I got some of those glue trays, and put one under the kitchen counter, in an indentation near the dishwasher. When I got home last night, the bloke had surfed the tray all the way into the middle of the kitchen. I fantasized about the velocity that it would have taken to move that thing ten feet, but since I had been home for a while, I started hearing the tail lash against the floor, and I was hoping the bugger couldn't get loose and come after me in the middle of the night. Wanna come over to my house and get this thing out of here? Will he be dead, or exhausted by today? What if he gets loose?

Photo by Greg AllenYesterday was quite the day, I crashed my phone, then someone hit my car in a parking lot, and now this. I might just take a “walk in the woods...and never come back.” But seriously, there is something so mysterious about this song. Is it an alien abduction? A childish prank, or something more sinister? Or something more committed, like running away for love, being misunderstood? Read the lyrics - oh the ambiguity! Love, love, love Peter Case. This song comes from his 1986 solo self-titled record. Last year he released the raw and rocking album Wig!, then The Case Files, a collection of demos, outtakes, live tracks and other odds and ends from his solo career, appeared this year. Peter is about to take another run at the road in starting September 9th. We caught up with him at Americana Fest in Nashville last year. It was intense. Yes it was.

Myk Gordon "Brand New Love"

The very best days are those that take flight with no expectations. You know, the ones where you can follow your face wherever it takes you, and chase down whatever opportunity that presents itself. When you can have an impromptu lunch or drinks, or when you can spend two hours in deep conversation with a friend. I love this stuff, it seconds the motion, and makes you believe there are no coincidences. And that’s when love comes, when you are just going about your business not looking for it at all, which I have to say, is pretty liberating. Meet someone new and the mind does wander, the fantasies take wing. The mystery always lurks at the periphery. “Is he the one, is she?” And experiencing that life changing magic moment makes you soar.

I guess Myk Gordon knows all this landscape especially well, as he is a singer/songwriter, and a psychotherapist as well. He is from Vancouver, British Columbia, and came to play solo for the Music Fog cameras last year, although he had brought his band down to Nashville. We bring you an as yet unreleased song from Myk (pronounced "Mike") Gordon, filmed during the 2010 Americana Music Festival. By the way, wristbands are on sale for this year’s festivities, happening in October. The wristbands are good for all evening performances during the entire Americana Fest, and are only $50.

So on this day, may you find happiness. May it fill your heart and make it light. Here is Myk Gordon with “Brand New Love.”

Will Kimbrough "Piece Of Work"

Have you noticed the days are starting to get shorter? This bodes well for a cooling off sometime in the not too distant future. Preseason football is back, that is a harbinger too, though the weather this year has been weird, weird, weird. The kids are coming back to school; there is feverish unpacking of UHauls everywhere. All good normal stuff. Oh, summer isn’t over yet by any means, and festival season is continuing on with Austin City Limits Music Festival and Hardy Strictly Bluegrass Festival just around the corner. Then the Americana Fest is happening again, a month later than normal, it will take place in October this year.

Last year, Music Fog was holed up at the Nashville Sheraton Downtown in a conference room during Americana Fest. Will Kimbrough came to see us on Saturday of that week. He brought Lisa Oliver-Gray, Tim Mark and Fred Eltringham - they proceeded into the groove that they do so well. Will is slated for Americana Fest again this year, that is after he jets out to San Francisco for Hardy Strictly. He just played at the Newport Folk Festival a couple of weeks ago, too. Life is good. Here is a tasty morsel from his ever growing catalog, “Piece Of Work.”
