Jimmy LaFave "Restless Spirits"
Bittersweet indeed, leaving Austin. Yesterday, I spent a couple more hours in the empty house, reliving memories from the last three years, and wondering about what the future is about to bring. Last night at Threadgill's, my School Night Session was a kick ass affair with Shurman and Marina Rocks performing. It turned into a total throw-down of a good time. Cake and booze and rock and roll music, with loads of love in the room.
What a wonderful community this town has, I am honored to have been a part of it. There is just something about Texas that I love, wholeheartedly, no reservations. Thanks to Eddie Wilson, Dave Whitney, and Danny Jones for making a home for me at Threadgill's. Love you guys, love what you have built and love that it continues. Love the musicians who have played the series, I'll tell ya, we have had some amazing moments. Of course, you can see what we captured over this last year at threadgills.tv.
While we were in the back room, Jimmy LaFave was playing in the Beer Garden at Threadgill's to celebrate the release of his new album, Depending On The Distance, which just came out last week. If I must say, it is vintage Jimmy; melodic, gorgeous, meaningful. This morning, Abbey Road, Robbyn Dodd, and I hit the road, Austin to Memphis, on our way to the Big Apple, my home town. "Restless Spirits" indeed! From the Fog Bank, today we revisit Jimmy LaFave with Rad Lorkovic and John Fullbright from Folk Alliance in Memphis in 2009.
