Just think of this period as Music Fog’s “Listener Support Drive,” while we try to raise money. Our Kickstarter campaign for our travels to produce another Music Fog Marathon webcast is languishing. Allow me to explain.

We started this grand project, Music Fog, to be 21st Century archivists. We have boot-strapped it with our own time and money (partially from our XM severance).  But our ability to self-fund is long gone, and the past 4 years has probably been the hardest time to start a new business in history. We wanted to shine a light on worthy artists, though many of them are not rolling in dough, either.  We still believe in the mission, but frankly we are running out of time.

We were overjoyed with the support all of you gave us last March for our spring Marathon. It was a collective vote of support for this music, these artists, and of course, Music Fog. When we decided to do our second Kickstarter campaign, we had no idea whether we could go back to the same well twice in one year. Without corporate backing, it is the only choice we have.  Over the last several years, we have captured lightning in a bottle. There have been so many memorable musical moments that we have loved sharing with you, the artists that we film, and their fans. Everything has been viral. Our story gets told through the artists we feature, and the social networking platforms, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have made it possible to get it to the audience.

Lera Lynn has today’s tune. We filmed her last year at the Americana Fest, and we were blown away by her sultry voice and her crackerjack band. We had them return to our stage a few months ago during SXSW for a second outing this past March. Actually, Lera will be performing at Americana Fest again this year. We want to be there, with our cameras in hand. Help Music Fog make that wish come true by pledging whatever you can through our Kickstarter campaign, or passing the link along to someone or some company that you think would like to help.  If you love the music discovery our videos deliver, which by the way have remained free to watch, we would really appreciate it if you would help us make some more. We hope this music, and our mission, is as meaningful to you as it has been to us.
