What to do on a Friday night in Texas with a Legendary Dance Hall? Call Bruce Robison and tell him you want to dance! Bruce will say, “That’s what I like to hear." If you know anything about country music, Texas music in particular, you know who Bruce Robison is. Not only has he written hits for the Dixie Chicks, George Strait, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill; Bruce has an all out, get yer boots on, shine yer buckles and hit the dance floor band.

The Luckenbach Dance Hall was built in the early 1900’s. It is one of the most pristine, well kept, historic dance halls in Texas and I would dare say - the country. We have a grounds crew of 4 who’s #1 priority is the care and maintenance of the dance hall. Its’ open air design let’s the breezes blow through during the hot summer nights that are guaranteed here in the Texas Hill Country. The ambiance is unmatched. The lights dimmed, Bruce Robison on stage. Ain’t nothin like it if you are trying to get a little closer to the object of your affection! It sure beats that internet thing. Matchmaker.com who?

Bruce plays a great little circle of famous places here in Central Texas. Within a few weeks of each other, he will hit the dance halls from Luckenbach to Gruene, Cheatham Street and the famous Broken Spoke in Austin. It’s all good. Texas is big, and the dance halls are at least 60 miles apart. Bruce and I have been chatting about this dance hall thing. It used to be a family affair. Folks would grab the kids and head out on Friday and Saturday night. Kids made new friends, learned how to act in public and had a good time with their parents. It’s still a good thing to do. The next time you are wondering what to do on a weekend, instead of calling a baby sitter or turning on the TV, get yer boots out, dust ’em off, grab your family and hit the road to the nearest dance hall. It will do your heart good...and your waistline!
