Emmylou Harris w/ Buddy Miller
Egyptian Theatre in Boise, Idaho - November 15th
If you ever find yourself in Boise, there are two places you must go: The Record Exchange and The Egyptian Theatre. The Record Exchange is insanely awesome. Local, eclectic, and extremely well stocked, it’s a haven for music lovers. The Egyptian has been around since 1927 and is an architectural gem, plus it has near-perfect acoustics.
I had the pleasure of seeing Emmylou Harris and her Red Dirt Boys at the Egyptian with special guest Buddy Miller. Emmylou is legendary with two sold out shows in Boise being proof.
Buddy Miller opened and blew people away. His voice can fill a room perfectly and the deeply emotional lyrics of his work send chills down your spine. (This is why I wish the Music Fog crew had come to Idaho to record his performance, or I at least could operate a camera.) Buddy Miller and his wife, Julie, have won a myriad of awards for their work but he is remarkably humble. It makes his music all the more resonant. He also played a full band set at the Record Exchange the following day.
What can you say about Emmylou Harris? She is graceful, poised, stunning and has a voice that’s…that’s…what is smoother than honey? Just beautiful. The dynamics of her voice, from whisper quiet to a resonant sound. Everything about her is stunning. Her Red Dirt Boys are fantastic! At one point, I remember thinking, there is nothing missing, not a single note or instrument could be added to make the sound any better.
I very much hope everyone gets to see these artists live because it’s a real treat, and in my opinion, talent like they have does not come around too often anymore.
